I think we all have something that we depend on to get us through each day.  For some it's an addiction and for others it's just something they look forward to each day.  Let's call that something your "crutch". So what's your crutch? My main crutch is coffee and it is a full on addiction.  If I don't get some of the life giving fluid in the morning, I am cranky and get a headache.  My other crutch is chocolate.  I don't know if it is an addiction or not but I just...

I recently read a piece online that detailed how a Rachel Ray ad for Dunkin Donuts was taken off the air after Michelle Malkin wrote about the scarf Ray wore in the ad.  Malkin claimed it resembled a "kiffeyeh" which was worn by terrorists in hostage videos.  Malkin also claims that Collin Farrell, Kanye West and Howard Dean have all been seen wearing similar scarves which she labeled "distinctive hate couture". I used to enjoy Malkin's spunk on the O'Reilley Factor.  She left ...

I am feeling blue for a couple of reasons.  A) My hubby is away on business for a week (but I can't complain) I seem to have some sort of flu or cold that has me achy and exhausted; and C) I got a very bad hair cut. I went to the stylist with spiral permed hair that was about to the bottom of my shoulder blades.  It was almost all one length but with long layers.  I hadn't had a trim for about 3 months so it was hard to tell I had layers at all. I told the stylist how l...

TV Land has this program called High School Reunion where a group of alumni having their 20th high school reunion are brought to a resort in Hawaii and drama ensues.  This show caught my attention because I am about to have my 20th reunion in a few weeks and was interested to see what issues these others my age were having. First off, these people look old!  The grey hair and wrinkles on most made me think "I don't look that old...do I?!"  I can understand why the guy whose wif...

One of these days in the distant future, perhaps I'll write a book about the extraordinary things that happen in very ordinary lives.  Today I will just write a small blog about the one twist in my life that I find the most unexpected.  You would probably think that the thing that I find most unexpected after growing up with a very 80s version of Little House on The Prairie lifestyle would be ending up wealthy .  Not for me. The biggest surprise in my life so far is t...

I usually have a heck of a time adjusting to losing an hour.  I don't mind "Falling Back" quite as much.  I was quite concerned how things would go with the baby but she's adjusting without a single problem. My parents helped the time change go easy on me.  My hubby and I went on a date night Saturday so my parents stayed the night with the kids.  They wore the baby out and my mom had the brilliant idea to give her oatmeal in the evening so her tummy was nice and full whic...

I believe that a HomeMaker and a HouseKeeper are very different things.  I, for one, am a very good HomeMaker but a less than good HouseKeeper (at least right now with a toddler).  I am not a person that can't sleep if there's a dirty dish or some other mess.  I know very well it will still be there in the morning. I do think that I am quite good at home making though.  I can take an empty house and make it quite cozy quite quickly.  I also fill the home with wonderfu...

I love the change of seasons here in Michigan but I am done with Winter!  I am so sick of the bitter cold, snow, and all the fun sicknesses that come along with the dry, cold weather.  We need some sunshine and warm air now! Last week we discovered that our cottage ran out of propane and froze.  Luckily our builders used a new kind of pipe that expands and nothing burst.  Our school was not as lucky over the mid-winter break.  Pipes burst and there was a lot of water ...

Have you seen the crazy produce at the markets these days?  I was recently told about Orange cauliflower so I went to my local market to check it out.  It tastes the same as regular cauliflower but has added beta carotene and is a prettty orange color.  The purple variety has added vitamin C. My kids, especially my 7yr old, are picky about veggies but love the colored cauliflower.  They also like carrots that still have the greens attached because they look like bugs ...

I caught a couple of minutes of The View unintentionally today.  My toddler got ahold of the clicker and there was Joy Behar spewing her idiocy.  I can't believe she gets paid to say the things she says! She was talking about how the rich shouldn't get tax cuts.  Whoopi Goldberg was actually trying to talk some sense but was getting shouted over by the brainless redhead.  She's supposed to be a comedienne but the only thing funny about her is that she thinks what she ...

For those of you out there who don't want to be parents ever/ever again, there is a non surgical female option.  I recently talked to my doctor about tubal ligation (getting ones tubes tied) and he told me about Essure.  It is a procedure where tiny coils are placed into the falopian tubes through the vagina and then the tubes scar around them preventing pregnancy. I checked out the website and even though it is a very new procedure, the results sound really great.  A lot of th...

I'm afraid I didn't catch the name of the author or the book but I heard a TV program playing in the background the other day talking about the key to happiness.  They talked about the differences in twins when one was a generally happy person and the other wasn't.  One phrase stuck with me, "Attitude of gratitude".  They were saying that feeling grateful for what you have rather than always wishing you had something else is the key to happiness.  I can understand how tha...

I'm 37 yrs old and just got my first ticket.  Was it for doing 100mph down the highway in a sports car?  No, it was for going 35mph in a 30mph zone in my mini van. The officer was very nice and looked to be about 10yrs my junior.  He asked me if I knew why he pulled me over and I honestly told him I unfortunately did not.  He told me I was going 5mph over the limit and asked if I had any tickets on my record.  I told him I had a very clean record and then he took my l...

I think I wrote a similar blog a long time ago and I'm sure others have written similar ones too, but I feel compelled to go there again.  The reason I Blacklist is simple: Life is too damn short to let people irk you. I blog for entertainment, social interaction and to keep my brain from total atrophy.  I have enough stress in my life that I don't need strangers on the internet to supply me with more.  I am human so sometimes, depending on my mood, it doesn't take much to irk ...

I just caught a little bit of Good Morning America's coverage from Iowa and had to switch to Noggin (for my toddler and for my sanity).  Chris Cuomo was seated with what was obviously a cherry picked group who had very different views on  how to pick a president.  The one that really got to me was the young woman. They went around the table and said who they were supporting.  The one man who sounded most intelligent and informed said he was undecided.  The young woman...
