I think everyone who doesn't consider themselves christian has gotten accused of being antichristian at one time or another.  I have gotten accused many times.  Ironically the accusers are people with some sort of martyr complex who assume that they will be persecuted for being christian.  They take issue with me in anticipation of my taking issue with them. I am not denying that there are plenty of people on the planet who actually are antichristian.  I just find it odd w...

My sister went the humor route this year when it came to Valentines.  The one she gave to me and Brad said: Don't kiss your honey when your nose is runny you might think it's funny but it's snot   The one she gave my parents said this: True love is when:   Get it? True love is when 2 hearts beet ass Juan  I really loved that one! Got any?

What a nice way to end the day.  A cup of wonderful tea delivered to me a while back from a friend in the UK (who better to get tea from?), a valentine cookie made for me by my mom, and a bit of blogging on JU.  And it is almost that magical time of evening I call "bedtime for the boys". I can breathe a sigh of relief once the boys are nestled safely in bed.  One more day I kept them alive   After all, that is the main job for mothers of boys, isn't it? Monday was kind...

Our 5yr old son, Ryan, is so much like his daddy.  It is kind of spooky sometimes.  As he gets older we see more and more similarities. We started calling him Brad's mini-me at an early age because he looks so much like him physically.  His hands, feet, and build are almost identical.  There are pictures of Brad when he was 4 or 5 that you would be hard pressed to be able to discern from some pictures of Ryan. The spooky part is the mannerisms.  Ry chews exactly li...

FEMA is under investigation for not having verified information before awarding emergency funds to claimants.  It bothers me deeply that the agency was so sloppy but it bothers me more that so many scumbags stole money from truly needy people during a time of absolute disaster.  It just shows the absolute absence of respect for others and the absence of self respect and pride. My grandparents came from the great depression.  They believed in taking care of their own and wo...

I am sitting here literally waiting for water to boil.  It is 7PM and I am about to boil some green beans and am waiting for my chicken to get done roasting.  It smells sooo good! Brad is home (that's a first for a long time) and is on the couch working from his laptop.  Alex and Ryan are playing on the computer.  They must be really distracted because I haven't heard a single "Mommy!  I'm starving!" yet. I have to make a cake for my mom and wrap her birthday prese...

When I got home from picking up kids from school today I noticed a new message on the machine.  It was the art class mom and all she said is she would like me to give her a call.  I immediately thought "uh oh.  What did he do?"  I think most moms of boys can relate to that mindset. Similar to other jobs, in motherhood you hardly ever get a call that is positive feedback.  Well, I was pleasantly surprised.  She just wanted to let me know that Alex is an exceptiona...

Happy Groundhog's Day all!  My 3rd grader reminded me today.  I think his class planned to watch to see if Phil saw his shadow.  I'm hoping to find the movie Groundhog's Day on TV tonight.  I think it is a clever movie and Bill Murray was hilarious.  I love the part where he tells the groundhog "Don't drive angry!" This winter has been a breeze so a few more weeks of it won't bother me any.  Hope everyone gets to enjoy a bit of sunshine today.

I have two young, very imaginative boys so one method of recycling in my home is giving them stuff to "create" with.  Creamer bottles, milk cartons, oatmeal containers, they all can become very cool space ships!  They use things in ways no adult would ever imagine.  It is fascinating to watch and great exercise for their brains. We have a great recycling store in Ann Arbor called the Scrapbox.  People and businesses can donate materials and then you can come in, purchase a...

I often hear people say "man, that was a wasted day".  I have felt that on occasion.  To me, a day is wasted if you have spent it doing nothing that you enjoy.  If you didn't get to enjoy the company of firends and loved ones and had to spend that time doing tedious, pointless stuff (like standing in line at the DMV) it is a wasted day.  If you spend the day sick as a dog, wishing you would fall asleep and not wake up, it is a wasted day. Any day that you got the chance to...

Richard Hatch, the winner of the first Survivor show, was found guilty of not paying the taxes on his $1million winning and also of evading taxes on money he made hosting a radio show.  He claims that he had made a deal with the producers of Survivor that they would pay the taxes on his winnings provided he win due to the fact that he caught other contestants cheating. Let's see here, you trust a verbal agreement regarding taxes on $1million dollars.  Didn't get that in writing?&nbs...

I personally see way too many contradictions with the bible to take it literally.  I can however understand it being used as a guide of general teachings.  If you look at it as a compilation of stories to teach morality, I can see it as a very useful tool. Can you take Jesus as your saviour and not take the bible as the word of God literally.  Can you be christian and believe that God sent messages to mankind to be recorded in story form to teach right from wrong?  If foll...

My 3rd grade son Alex went to a "slumber" party last night.  I have never seen that kid that tired in his life!  Apparently the other boys were pulling pranks on the ones who fell asleep so Alex refused to give them the chance to pull anything on him.  He was not a happy camper when I picked him up at noon. He is one of those kids, like most of us, who gets very wobbly and clumsy when they are over tired.  Apparently the boys all went outside to play after breakfast and Al...

I humbly admit that until introduced to the term "Deism" by Myrrander, I had never heard of it.  When Myr set forth that I was deist rather than agnostic, I looked into it and indeed he was right.  Friends had always referred to me as agnostic so I accepted that term for lack of knowing a more fitting term. I believe there is a God in the sense that there is a creator.  I don't believe there is an organized religion out there that has it right where God is concerned.  I al...
