Hope the title didn't get anyone excited, this is not an in depth article trying to explain string theory so if that is what you were hoping for, move along.  Instead, this blog is more of simply my general reaction to this theory. I was watching a Nova piece about string theory and found it very interesting.  I have to give scientists credit for putting so much effort into something that really can't be tested.  All the while I couldn't help thinking, no matter how far scienti...

I got everything I wanted for Christmas and then some.  I must have been on the "nice" list.  I really only wished for everyone to be healthy and have some good visit time.  That we did.  I hoped for a nice pair of earrings and holy cow did I get that wish fulfilled!  Honking big, beautiful diamonds!  Surprised as all get out by that one. All of our gifts were thoughtful and that is truly what it is about.  My grandma knit us all socks, my sister got us a be...

Boy did we party over the holidays!  Lots of friends and family and lots of good food.  Too much good food.  We have cheeses and crackers and cakes and pies and chocolates galore.  There are chips and dips and other sorts of things I can't trust myself to have around the house.  I will probably take some veggies in too. Our eating and sleeping is sooo out of whack!  Monday is going to be like the living dead around here.  We have been going to sleep around 1...

I just can't believe we are knocking on 2005's door already!  It truly seems everyone was just all worked up about Y2K.  I had my last baby in 2000 so I see the passing of time in no uncertain terms when I look at him.  2004 was a very good year.  Lots of fun times were spent with family and friends.  Everyone in our family was in pretty good health.  I am certainly hoping for more of the same for 2005. I guess my main hopes for 2005 are more time with family...

Many of us find guidance in religion.  For those of us who don't, there are a couple of rules that I have found to be helpful in my life so I will share them. First:  Before you speak, write or act, consider what you hope to achieve and whether or not that action will achieve that goal.  For instance, someone says something nasty, your instinct might be to lash back but how will that make you feel in the long run?  Through trial and error I have found that lashing bac...

I haven't been blogging much because I have been doing a lot of stuff in the "real world"   Holiday stuff has really kept me busy.  Mind you, I am aware it is self imposed busy-ness.  I feel very satisfied after a productive weekend. I got a good start on my holiday baking, decorating, wrapping and even got caught up on laundry (laundry is never finished but can be caught up to a managable rate).  I slept in, got bills paid, helped the boys make presents for their teacher...

You may have heard about the Washington State Supreme Court's ruling on banning parental telephone eavesdropping.  If not, you should look into it and be afraid.  What the hell are they thinking?! A 17yr old kid assaults an old woman and steals her purse.  Some parents have an idea of who did it so they are on the look out.  A mom listens in on a conversation between this kid and her 14yr old daughter on her phone in her house which she pays for.  The kid tell...

I have really been excited about the holidays this year.  My little one has been in preschool this year so, for the first time, I have had some child free shopping time.  I have been utilizing that time to its fullest. I do HR stuff for our company and we have a lot of end of the year stuff right now too.  Calling, faxing, emailing, etc. all eat up the little bits of time I used to spend on JU.  Sometimes I even have to go to the office just to get to see my hubby who has ...

I really hate people who don't get the hell out of the way when emergency vehicles are trying to get through!  Something bad was going on today because I was in a parking lot and saw half a dozen emergency vehicles go by.  Now I know that sometimes you can't hear a siren until it gets up close but once you hear one siren, you should get your head out of your ass and be alert for others.  This didn't seem to happen with the idiots on the road today. A couple of vehicles were the...

I have always enjoyed Christmas music.  Whether it makes me happy or sad, it touches me.  A new song has been making me cry and think about how other songs make me feel.  "Christmas Shoes" makes me cry every time I hear it.  I don't care whether you are christian or not, if that song doesn't pull at your heart strings, you don't have one! Songs make me remember elementary school holiday programs when I was so proud to be on stage with my choir mates singing songs...

I have been battling our 12 ft. artificial Christmas tree and am conceding round one.  I got all of the segments up from the basement, identified and got the base, skirt and bottom two segments assembled in place.  The third segment is at just the right level that I have to get the ladder.  I tried standing on a chair but it is so high, heavy and awkward that the attempt ended in a lot of cussing and back pain. My hands and arms are all scratched up and I am trying for the life...

While at our cousin's home for Thanksgiving, my husband asked her teenaged daughter how old I looked and she said 20.  That really made my day.  This girl is a very straight shooter so I took what she said with some weight since last year my hubby showed her a picture of us at the zoo and she said "Wow.  She's obese." At 34yrs old it always puts a bounce in my step when someone says I look like I could be in my 20s.  Having kids makes me feel very young at times and very o...

A lot of things about this time of year, especially this year due to the election, produce religious discussion.  A lot of people assume that my family is christian due to our morals and values.  One friend even thought I had been raised Catholic.  When I reveal that I am not christian, things often get uncomfortable.  It was even questioned how we could have morals and teach them to our children without being christian. Just because I have not been able to accept that Jes...

I have seen a couple of episodes of The Swan and find the show very disturbing.  I don't mind the extreme makeover show because they are usually helping people that have real problems.  The women on The Swan don't have big problems.  They take normal women and make them into clones! They make all of these women into skinny blondes with perfect noses and big boobs.  Last episode they had two sisters compete against each other.  One was brunette and they made the other ...

My kids didn't have school today due to a teacher inservice so I took them to the SpongeBob movie.  It was the craziest thing I have ever seen!  It did have a lot of funny stuff.  It definitely held the boys' attention for the duration and the ending was the best part. If you like the show, you'll like the movie.  If you don't know anything about the show, you will be very disturbed by the movie   I saw a lot of dads there with their kids and the dads were laughing a...
