What are yours?

I have always enjoyed Christmas music.  Whether it makes me happy or sad, it touches me.  A new song has been making me cry and think about how other songs make me feel.  "Christmas Shoes" makes me cry every time I hear it.  I don't care whether you are christian or not, if that song doesn't pull at your heart strings, you don't have one!

Songs make me remember elementary school holiday programs when I was so proud to be on stage with my choir mates singing songs for our families.  Others remind me of my band days.  Sleigh ride really reminds me of middle and high school band.

Jingle Bells and Jingle Bell Rock always put me in a good mood.  Silent Night and O Holy Night always make me reflective.  Pretty Paper sung by Roy Orbison makes me both happy and sad.  He is my mom's favorite singer (mine too) which makes me happy but he passed away my first year of college plus it is just a sad song.

Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman and Santa Clause is Coming to Town remind me of watching their respective holiday specials on TV.  And of course it just wasn't Christmas without watching A Charlie Brown Christmas and The Grinch.  Now we can watch them any time by just popping a DVD or video cassette in.  Somehow I think it seemed more special when you had to wait until it came on TV though.

Well, off to do some cleaning and holiday decorating.  Please share your music related holiday memories.

The smell of cinnamon apple candles, incense, and potpouri always bring back the greatest of Christmas memories for me. I tie so many memories with smell, both good and bad. Growing up we did not celebrate Christmas, but I remember going to church with my Catholic grandmother on Christmas Eve. I was both awed and afraid at the mass. I remember vividly the smell of the incense as they sprinked the congregation. I associate that smell with reverence, fear, and Christmas. It is the strangest mixture of feelings.

Thanks for sharing your memories through music. Music is another one of those mediums that stirs great emotions and memories.

MMMM. The smells and sounds of Christmas bring so many memories. I know it sounds silly but all Christmas music from Handels Messiah all the way to the Chipmunks Christmas bring back memories.

I remember being a little kid and stacking every Christmas LP on the record player so they would play back to back all night long. The smells of hot cocoa and cinnamon remind me of being bundled up in warm jammies and watching Christmas specials on tv after a long day of sledding outside.

Thanks for inspiring my memories........
