A very sad incident happened yesterday.  I group of senior citizens from Trenton, MI were on a Fall color tour in New York when the sail boat they were on capsized and 21 perished.  Twenty one people being lost from such a small town is going to have a huge effect on that community. They don't yet know what happened to cause the boat to flip.  It seemed like absolutely perfect boating conditions.  It happened so fast that noone had time to grab a life vest.  Adults ar...

We took a family vacation to Disney World in April and had a great time.  My favorite ride was Mission Space at Epcot.  My 4yr old hated it.  Now I know why! There was news today that a 4yr old boy died after going on that ride!!  He died!!  They went on to say that many people had gone to the hospital with breathing problems and chest pains.  The 2G forces seem to have suffocated the little boy who had met the minimum of 44 inches tall requirement to ride. I ...

My latest venture to the grocery store with my 4yr old son proved quite a challenge.  Star Wars characters were slapped on every product around which made my son "have to have it".  I looked around and could quickly see that every mom toting a young lad was having the same problem. I am good at dodging the cereals.  They have had the old character on the front, prize inside thing going long enough that the kids have given up on begging for that.  I wasn't prepared for the ...

I am not catholic and am honestly interested in the feelings toward the pope passing on.  I heard a report about the spokesman for the pope being surprised at how serene and at ease he seems to be with the gravity of his situation.  If the Pope can't be at ease with death, who can?  Are people sad for the Pope or for themselves?  I am not sad for the Pope.  If he gets to be with God, why be sad about that?  I would think being trapped in that sick, aged, failing...

MSNBC.com had an article that reported that the telethon that NBC had for tsunami relief made $18 million where the 9/11 telethon raised $130 million.  That is all it stated.  It made no comparison of any kind other than the bottom line.  That left me wondering if there was a point they hoped people would come to or if they were just laying out the numbers for pure information sake. I watched the telethon and I will tell you why I didn't participate.  In all honesty, I rea...

You may have heard about the Washington State Supreme Court's ruling on banning parental telephone eavesdropping.  If not, you should look into it and be afraid.  What the hell are they thinking?! A 17yr old kid assaults an old woman and steals her purse.  Some parents have an idea of who did it so they are on the look out.  A mom listens in on a conversation between this kid and her 14yr old daughter on her phone in her house which she pays for.  The kid tell...

An awful lot of people are behaving badly these days.  It is one thing to disagree with someone but it is unexceptable to be violent toward them or call them names.  It is no wonder so many kids have behavioral problems. If you refer to others as idiots, morons or jerks, your kids will be saying the same things about others and usually at the least opportune time.  The best behaved kids tend to come from the best behaved parents.  If you say please and thank you to your ki...

Remember when we used to complain that we barely got through eating our pumpkin pie before people were out the door putting up their Christmas lights?  Those were the good old days.  This year I hadn't even seen "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" before being bombarded with Christmas commercials. I had to do some last minute Halloween shopping today because our neighborhood is doing this thing called "Booing".  (For those of you unfamiliar with this, you get a bag, box or o...

The recent trend of entertainers using their venues to spread their political agendas really has me fed up.  I am not a person who is disinterested in politics, I just don't want to be bombarded by it everywhere I turn.  Everyone needs an escape from the "real world" and I am one who looks to music, movies and television for that recreational escape. I resent entertainers spoiling my retreat with their opinions on who should run our country.  I resent having my musical tastes t...

My sons and I were having breakfast this morning and something in the fruit bowl caught my eye.  Our bunch of bananas had more than the usual name brand stickers on them.  There was a sticker that said "Go See Garfield The Movie" with a picture of Garfield on it. That is disturbing in so many ways!  But what struck me first was the thought of the ads everywhere in the movie "Minority Report".  I think we are well on our way.  Every food item you can imagine has Shrek ...

I am a person who sees horrible things like what happened on 9/11 or what happened to Nick Berg (I made the mistake of watching the video) and feel that those people responsible deserve to be eliminated from the population.  I do not feel like they need to be tortured or made to endure a painful death.  Quick and painless is fine as long as they are no longer around to take out innocent lives. I just don't understand how these people derive satisfaction out of causing pain and suffe...

I have eluded to this idea in commenting on other articles. I think the current system makes it too hard for people who aren't used to planning to use the assistance they get to it's maximum benefit. Here is my idea. I am posting it in hopes of getting peoples ideas to add to the idea. Feel free to tell me why it is a bad idea (if it is) also. I believe we should create government stores that assistance vouchers would be redeemed at. The vouchers would be recieved each month with a bro...

I heard this story this afternoon on The View. If anyone knows more, please share details! As the story was told on the show, a 10 day old baby died in a house fire 6yrs ago. The body was presumed completely incinerated. 6yrs later, the mother of the baby was at a friend's child's birthday party when she noticed a little girl and instantly thought "that is my daughter!" She saw a defining dimple that her infant had had. She then had the forethought to tell the girl she had gum in her h...

A friend sent this article and asked me to find out from any Germans that I knew what they thought. I think it was clever of the first group. I think, like they said, it would be safe for them becasue of the media surrounding it. It sounds like it could be dangerous for any that follow. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/lifestyle_germany

Did any of you wonder why Jessica got so much attention? Did you hear mutterings about the African-American woman (Shoshana) that got shot in both legs? I did. I watched the Jessica Lynch interview last night. There was a lot of information to be gleened out of the sensationalism. I finally think I understand what the deal is. Basically, there were no witnesses to what exactly happened to Jessica. Everyone else in her vehicle died. She herself isn't even a very good witness since she w...
