The adventures of Mommy woman
Baby #3 on the way
Published on January 10, 2006 By JillUser In Blogging

I recently surprised a few JUers with revealing my true identity.  I will probably surprise even more with this news, Brad and I are expecting a baby this Summer.  We are excited, and scared, but mostly excited.

I am just in the beginning of my 3rd month so I am in what most deem the "Too soon to tell people" part of pregnancy.  I have decided that is not a system that works for me.  I had two miscarriages between our two boys.  The first one everyone knew about and it was hard.  The second one we played it "safe", it was harder.

Early pregnancy can be rough in a lot of ways.  You worry that things are going okay.  Many women get quite sick (I don't thank goodness!).  Most women get hormonal.  I am definitely in that camp.  And most women get very fatigued in the first 3 months.  One book on pregnancy likened the work a woman's body does in the first 3 months to using the same amount of energy as hiking every day.  That explains why I am exhausted and cranky by 9:00 every night!

Part of the reason I decided to reveal who I was was I figured Brad and I would both start blogging about the pregnancy and then about the baby and it would be very obvious then.  I figured I would just cut to the chase.  It is the main thing on my mind these days for some reason so it would be torture to me to keep it a secret until it is "safe".

I am 35 so this time around the doctors are talking a lot more about genetic screening and testing.  I really don't feel any different than I did 5yrs ago.  I don't have any habits like smoking or drugs and I am generally a very healthy person.  I am not too worried but all the attention to my age does make it scarier than before.

So that's my news for now.  It is almost 9:30 so I have hit the wall for tonight.  I will keep you all posted (for those interested).

Congratulations to you and Brad!  Like MM said, healthy and beautiful is the hope, but I think a Little girl would really floor Brad!  She would wrap him around her pinkie so fast!

congrats!

Wow!  Thanks everyone!  I wrote this before going to bed last night and had no idea Brad would feature it and I would get so many wonderful responses by the time I got up in the morning!  I will try to address as many of you comments as I can but if I don't mention yours specifically, please don't think I didn't appreciate it all the same.

TW:

I missed Brad's comment so I will have to go check that out.  Alex wants a boy  and Ryan wants a girl.  At least one of them will be happy

Kelly W:

Thanks for the words of encouragement!

Karen:

You are so awesome!  It is cool that you mentioned red because A) it is Alex's favorite color and We never did pastels with the other too.  Always preferred primaries.

MM:

A healthy baby is really all I'm praying for...well, that and an easy delivery

InBloom:

I will certainly be blogging about this adventure!  Each pregnancy is different.  I think it is helpful for others to hear about the different things others go through also.

Dr. Guy:

I girl would definitely control Brad.  Even my niece and friends' daughters get to him so I know his own would, well, own him   We aren't banking on a girl since there are none in my husband's family as far back as they could trace.  Sure would be a pleasant surprise though.

Thanks all!  I just got Alex off to school so I think I will go back to bed for a little bit.  I get sleep in whenever I can because I know my days are numbered.  I don't know if you can bank sleep but I feel it is worth a try

Duh, of course Brad would feature it. He wants to get the word about about his offspring!

My heartiest congratulations, Debbie and Brad. Good luck through that first trimester. It's a doozy. Brad better be waiting on you hand and foot.

When will you post ultrasound images?

And how does one have an online baby shower?

As soon as we have some that look like anything

As for an online shower, I have no idea but what a nice thought!

Congratulations! Baby number 3...that's great!

You know I always wondered about that to myself, and now the big reveal....Mrs. Brad! That's cool.

I had number 3 at age 35 too and my doctor wanted me to do the tests as well but I chose not to because I figured too that I didn't smoke or do anything to hurt my body and if the baby was other than normal when born then I'll still love her anyway and thank God she was!

Good luck with the pregnancy and that's great you don't get too sick, I did with all three.

We don't intend to do any more testing than we did with the others. Nothing invasive anyway. I am up for bloodwork and ultrasounds. We will see how things look from there.

I have read also that if you have already had children by 35 you aren't at as high of a risk as if you were having your first.

Woot! Congrats to you and Brad.

Yay! Congratulations!

And, hmmm, interesting. I didn't get sick with my son, but spewed spaghetti everywhere with my daughter. I never knew there was a wives tale about that. The one about heartburn and hair doesn't hold up either because my daughter didn't have much hair and boy did I have heartburn. Pringles & McDonalds would be the bane of my existance. My son though had so much hair that his father was reduced to tears in the delivery room (he's balding himself!).

Good luck!

Wow, that's quite a visual there. I think whether you get sick or not has a lot more to do with hormones and nutrition than the sex of the baby. People just like to make connections. I carried my first son very low and never had heartburn. I carried the second very high and had heartburn the entire time. Some thought maybe I was having a girl since I carried so differently. Nope, different babies mean different pregnancy issues.

Congratulations to you both!

I hope all goes smoothly and well for you and that this is the easiest one.
and will say prayers too.
