One of our neighbors just had a baby and we went to meet her last night. She's beautiful in her own funny little newborn way. I just can't resist snuggling up those little creatures whenever I am around them.
Newborns aren't really what people think of when you say "baby". They are wrinkly, funny colored, funny sounding little, helpless things. They're learning the basics of things like eating and digesting. Their cries sound very different from the cry they develop given a few months practice. They seem to have as many differences as similarities but even a "big" newborn is still tiny.
I was happy to see that this particular baby girl didn't seem to have any difficulties. What a relief for my friends who already have active 3 and 5yr olds to deal with. But even when you have the easiest of newborns, your world reverts to emphasizing the basics of life, those being eating and sleeping, for a good couple of months.
They grow and change so quickly that it becomes difficult to remember what they were like those first couple of months. I was too sick to truly appreciate my first as a tiny newborn. Luckily I got a second chance and felt great when I had my younger one.
Newborns are scary, funny, wonderful little blessings. I've been lucky enough to enjoy a good many of them and looks like many more since we have more neighbors, friends and family who will be having babies in the near future. Best wishes to all of you new parents out there. Hope you are able to enjoy your litte wonders.
