The adventures of Mommy woman

A couple of days ago I caught the Oprah show.  I was flicking through channels and saw Tom Cruise so thought I would stay a while.  Oprah was interviewing Tom and was asking him all about Katie.  Tom was acting absolutely insane!

Anywho, Oprah was singing the praises of Tom and said something that seemed very out of touch- She said that she had never seen a movie as anticipated as The War of the Worlds.  Heh?!  Ever heard of a little thing called Star Wars?!  I don't care whether or not you are into Star Wars, unless you are living in a cave or your own creation of a world, you have to admit that the final Star Wars movie is about the most anticipated movie ever.

I guess if there are crowds lined up at 6PM for a midnight showing of War of the Worlds, I will apologize.  Don't see it happening though.

Tom, shame on you for not mentioning SW when Oprah pulled that line.  You usually show a bit of humility but I didn't see it on that show.

You do know there's a remake of War of the Worlds, right?

Oprah is a talking head!  In that she is good, and also clueless.

yea, there is a remake of WOTW.  But it will not be as good as the original.  Or even the orson wells one!

Oprah is a talking head!
Her money and fame have just made her  soooo far removed from the real world.  Sure, she started out with a poor, rough beginning but that was literally lifetimes ago.  She is a different incarnation now.  Her world consists of throwing "historical" dinners, parties, and presenting at awards banquets.  She gets to travel wherever, do whatever and meet whoever she pleases.  I also don't appreciate her preaching about how to lose weight and "don't spend another Summer fat".  I suspect if I had a personal trainer, nutritionist, chef, etc., I would look my best also.  That being said, I think she has the best intentions.  I think she really does mean to help people and maybe she does.

I am taking this as a question to point out that people could be unaware of the WOTW remake but you certainly would say "Did you hear there is a new Star Wars movie out?"

That's why her name is Harpo spelled backwards.

I mean maybe she didn't get it wrong.

yes she means to.  But you are right again.  She is no longer able to connect with them.  Sad in that it is her job. She made it.But she has no clue.

I really haven't heard much buzz on WotW. Even if there weren't a Star Wars movie this year, it's a ridiculous statement.

Frankly, I'm more excited about seeing Herbie: Fully Loaded.

People anxiously waited for years for the Matrix sequels. I guess there might be a septuagenarian out there somewhere who's spent the last 40 years demanding, "When they gonna remake War of the Worlds? Now there was a movie!"

Besides, they already remade WotW. It was called Independence Day.

Re: Oprah not connecting to her audience anymore and being about fame now.

I agree. I watched part of the shows with the normal people on and she just interrupts people and talks over them. There was even this cook from some cable show and she prepared a 30 minute meal for her. Oprah's like "I'm not going to eat that bread." It was really rude. I was taken aback by it.

She's all about being on Access Hollywood and the like, now.

So right Gene!!

Couldn't agree more Dusk!  Did you happen to see the SNL spoof on Oprah where she had a "normal person" guest who had had her house burn down and lost everything?  It was spot on!  Oprah told the woman she had a surprise for her and you're thinking new house, new car, shopping spree?  No, she parades her friends John Travolta (who says he knows what it's like to suffer a fire because he was in Ladder 49) and Julia Roberts with her babies.

I guess I am really dissappointed with Oprah because I used to feel I could relate to her and was inspired by her.  I used to enjoy Tom Cruise too.  I find him disgusting now.  I am sure I will still enjoy his acting but prefer the days when he was a private person and kept his lunacy to himself.

And to think, Oprah made Discovery Chanel's Top 25 Americans List....argh!!

The problem is that Oprah is so far removed from the average Joes, but uses her "victim of the week" cases to try to make it look like she cares, by picking out one of the millions of people who are disadvantaged in some way and sending them to Disneyland. She cares all right, about her ratings.

And when she shows recipes, what are the odds that she actually cooks them herself? Not good.

If next week Paulie Shore was on, she'd say whatever home movie he was making is the most anticipated ever, too. Oprah's droning doesn't mean anything. I don't even think she takes it seriously, anymore.

The Cult of Oprah wouldn't care if she feasted on the souls of children between guests. Heck, it would probably start a new fad among bored housewives...
