The adventures of Mommy woman
Houston, we have a problem

I missed Tuesday night's auditions but caught last night's auditions in Houston, TX. I think they set a new record for worst auditions ever! Paula was feeling ill and ended up leaving about half way through. All of them walked out on people at different times. Both Simon and Randy walked out on a guy and he just kept singing...terribly!

It still boggles me, and I love it, that these people think they can be stars. I have taped myself singing and listened to it. I am not bad for your average person but I am so far off from being professional! What are these people thinking?!

I think Simon has been a lot nicer this time around. He is still no nonsense about telling people "no!" or "never!" or even "you might possibly be the worst singer I have ever heard." But he doesn't have the mean edge that he had before.

I feel the same kind of bewilderment with these people as I do with Survivor contestants. They all act as if they have never seen any of the prior shows. You can pretty much bet Simon will say something negative unless you are just incredibly talented.

I love this show!

I know what you mean. I am addicted as well. I am canadian, so it was awesome to see canadian idol. and that our hometown boy was crowned the first canadian idol.

all i can say, is that with the number of "terrible" singers, they have alot of guts!

I saw the same thing about Simon. He hasn't been nearly as harsh as he has been in the past, except he is still honest.

Regardless of the criticism that Simon gets, I really think that he has a good sense of what the public at large would say about any potential "artist." Even though he can be harsh, he is almost always right.

I think that the American Idol contestants can appreciate this too. Almost every contestant's main concern is impressing Simon, and his opinion seems to be the most valued.

Sometimes I worry that Randy and Paula may begin to feel "upstaged."

Jamie, I totally agree with you. I think Simon's arrogance makes his criticism a bitter pill but he tends to be right. He knows what will sell and what won't and that is what this is about. There is a big difference between good and good enough. I think Randy and Paula are started to follow Simon's lead and have become more critical this time around.
