The adventures of Mommy woman
Gift giving, pleasure or burden

I am getting a little discouraged with some family members (I won't name any names because they may read this) who make gift exchanging almost not worth it. Personally, I enjoy getting stuff that people thought of for me. I really don't like it when I have to give them a list to go buy. I truly believe it is the thought that counts.

So many people now seem to think of holiday shopping as such a chore. They have all of these people they "have" to buy for. Personally, if I don't have something in mind for someone, I make them cookies or something. The holidays shouldn't be greed based.

I don't understand buying for the sake of buying. I don't understand hounding people to give you ideas of what to buy for them or their family. That isn't fun. That isn't joyful. You don't have to give everyone something big. Some of my most memorable gifts have been hand made ornaments. I take them out each year to put on the tree and they remind me of the lovely holiday when I got them.

Please, more smiles less stress. Less shopping more visiting. More hot chocolate less anti depressants. Enjoy don't destroy.

I had a rage attack against my father's side of the family for that. Big explosion. I informed them all that if they felt the need to tell me what to get them, they could buy it for themselves instead of getting me anything. The gift of stress reduction to me is worth more than looking good in their eyes. It only further proves the greed point though, as most of them have done just what I said to.

By hubby's family used to have a gift exchange where you write down 3 $50 gift ideas and the person who got your name bought you one of them. However, we never participated because I could just go out and buy one of those 3 things, anyway. Interestingly enough, this year they decided not to do it and one Aunt and Uncle had a fit about it saying that everyone way being "cheap" and a "scrooge".

The best party that they have is a $5.00 gift exchange. Everyone brings a wrapped $5.00 gift. You then pick numbers. The first one opens a gift, the next one can either steal that gift or open a new one. It's pretty fun, and it only costs $5.00 each.

I'm buying everyone pet rocks for Christmas this year....... (just joking.....or am I?)
