The adventures of Mommy woman

I was very saddened to hear the news that Tony Snow succumbed to colon cancer.  He was only 53 and one of the best, if not best, White House Press Secretaries ever.  Whether or not you agreed with his politics, he seemed like a truly nice, genuine person.

His fate touches me at a personal level too because my longest, dearest friend is battling the same cancer.  Hers wasn't discovered until it had already spread to her liver.  Like Snow, the doctors were able to remove the part of the colon that was cancerous but she battles the cancer that spread to her liver.  She had responded very well to a procedure called ThereSphere which placed radiated glass beads directly on the cancerous spots.  Unfortunately, her last scan showed new lesions on the liver.

We have to find a way to beat cancer!  I can't believe how many people I now know who are either battling cancer or have already lost the battle.  People of any age.  My son even lost a friend who was only 10yrs old.

I am deeply sorry for the wife and three kids Tony Snow left behind.

I just read the reports as well and noticed he was the same age as my husband, younger by only less than two months.  I also noticed Tony and his wife were married in 87 and we were married in 82 and that we both had three children so I'm thinking his kids are a bit younger than mine probably even still in High School or younger.

We have two friends battling breast cancer  and one who just died after battling cancer for 10 years.  I think everyone has been touched by this terrible disease in one way or another.

The good thing is they are doing so much now with many diff kinds of cancer.  I'm thankful for my friends who have beaten cancer and have gone on to lead very productive lives.

I can only imagine the sorrow being felt by the Snow family.  My thoughts and prayers go out to them today.

Sad news, indeed.  He was one of the very best interviewers, commentators, and television personalities I have ever seen.  I hadn't heard about it until I saw your article, so thanks, Jill.

I was rattled by the news of his passing because I was looking toward him as an example of someone winning the battle. He grayed a lot during his treatments but still looked and sounded good. It is so scary how quickly things can change for the worse.

Sorry to hear the news, too.

And sorry to hear Jill's friend has relapsed. (

Thanks Daiwa. I just have to believe that she's young enough for there to be time to figure out a new treatment. I can't imagine losing her so I won't let myself go there.

I just found out today that Tony's parents live in my neighborhood and that Tony was here -when I first moved here last November. His sister-in-law (wife Jill's sister) lives here as well and there was a huge write-up in today's paper. Big front page story. Guess he was a friend of the Villages visiting often.

His children are younger than I first thought and that is always so hard to think about.
