The adventures of Mommy woman

The other night my hubby and I were watching some shows we recorded on Tivo.  We had some microwave popcorn and reminisced about the days when we had to put oil and corn in a pan and shake it over the stove top in order to make popcorn.  It took a long time and didn't even taste that great.  Boy have we come a long way since then!

Today I was hosting a family cookout.  I got some steaks out of the freezer and defrosted them in the microwave in about 6 minutes.  I just can't imagine not having a microwave!  I know I survived many years prior to having one.  I just don't know how

I use the microwave constantly.  I make oatmeal, cocoa, popcorn, soup, heat up leftovers, you name it, I nuke it.  I love my microwave!

I don't know how I survived before Microwavable dinners and pizza-based products.....

Mine is solely used for popcorn. The frequency that I use the microwave, however, is simply scary.

Are you saying you eat a lot of popcorn?

I have a love affair with the microwave oven as well. But I'd have to disagree about the popcorn. My step-mother taught me to pop it on the stove in oil in a sturdy pot, and I love it. I'll eat the microwave stuff, but it just tastes fake to me. Part of the appeal may be fond memories of my grandpa making himself popcorn on the stove when I was little. He put just the right amount of salt on it that it was tasty, but light.
Of course now I've built the perfect seasoning combination for my taste: chili pepper, garlic salt, parmesan cheese, and Butter Buds. Mmm.

The big drawback: It's a major pain to get the pan clean after.

Can you imagine reheating stuff without a microwave?
KarmaGirl shudders to think of that.......

Hey, maybe we can blame the microwave for our impatient (and maybe adult ADHD) society?  We need it and we need it NOW!

It also convenient, too. A decent sized dinner can be reheated in 10-15 minutes in the microwave. It's a nice meal and it doesn't take as long to cook again. It's funny, though, because sometimes food tastes better reheated. I don't know why, it just does.
