The adventures of Mommy woman

I don't know how other people react to cold days but they make me want to cook.  I am in Michigan right now and it feels a lot more like late September than August.  Some of the leaves are already changing!

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year but August is a little early to start even for me   Instead of throwing some shorts on, drinking a glass of water and getting outside, I threw some jeans and a long sleaved shirt, had some coffee and curled up on the couch.  I feel like drinking hot drinks and cooking hot meals.

I have a chicken roasting in the oven right now complete with stuffing and potatos and gravy.  Just seemed like the thing to do on a day like today.  It is dark and cold.  I figured I would either cook or nap....well, maybe some of both.  I rarely get a nap in with the kids at home so cooking had to do.  Sure, I could be doing laundry, housework and car maintenance right now but what is the fun in that?!

It's cold right now where I live too, and your kitchen sounds heavenly! Your supper sounds scrumptious, and made me realize how much I miss home.
The leaves on the bush outside my bedroom are half red, half green, and I truly expect a "late summer" followed by an early winter, and a severe one at that.
I think us "northers" appreciate the summer and delight in the autumn, as nature means business in the upper states!! Trudy

You got that right!  My home town makes bundles during the "Fall Color Tour" of Northern Michigan.  The Summer crowd starts dwindling mid July so the businesses are quite ready for Fall.  Fall is pretty short and is quickly followed by ski and snowmobile season up there.  I could do with more Fall, less Winter myself!

I think that you and I were separated at birth!

I'm the same way....I love the fall.  The crisp air in the mornings, the gentle warmth of the afternoon sun...the changing colors of the trees...such a beautiful time of year.  I like to make casseroles and stews, bake cookies and cakes..good, hearty warm foods for cooler days!  There's nothing like walking into a warm, wonderful smelling kitchen when it's cool outside!

Ahhh, I am so looking forward to fall!

Please, invite me over. I've been freezing every morning and evening for the past 2 days now. The daytime isn't that bad, but the rest of it is just too soon to be happening so quickly.

I think we were separated at birth too   That is exactly what I'm talking about.  Sometimes the best part of the baking is smelling the kitchen.  I am a big comfort food person.  I am trying to enjoy the preparing and smelling more lately so I don't spend as much time eating   My husband always brags to friends that a couple of my hobbies are cooking and giving him back rubs.  He must enjoy the cooking since I have put about 50lbs on him since we met.

I am certainly looking forward to Fall walks, big fluffy sweaters, hot cocoa by the fire at night, ahhhhhhhh I love it!  Can't be too far away.  Our Burning bushes are starting to turn red and our spirea are turning gold.  The further North you drive, the more colors you see popping out here and there.  I don't think I could handle living anywhere that didn't have change of seasons.

Mmmm....that sounds really good right now! Yeah it feels a wee bit chilly here in Ohio. I almost froze at soccer practice tonight.

Jill: Wow . . . that sounds soooo good. I love Fall, too and I think it will likely be the thing I miss the most here in Hawai'i. Drink some hot cocoa for me, will ya?

Texas, where in Hawaii are you?  I absolutely loved Kawai.  We island hopped for our honeymoon but I would love to go back and just spend the whole time either on Kawai or the Big Island.

I'll drink some cocoa for you if you have some pineapple on my behalf   There just isn't anything like fresh Hawaiian pineapple!

Jill: I'm here on Oahu. I have yet to see Kaua'i or the Big Island, but I plan to before the Army moves us.

Sounds like a fair trade. I agree, fresh pineapple is amazing. Yum!

Ever since I moved to the north west, I fell in love with fall. I love cooking all the comfort foods as well. Although it is still in the 90's here and it doesn't seem to be cooling here yet. I"m a bit jealous of you now.."

Texas, I knew I was spelling kauai wrong!   Definitely check those two islands out.  It is a whole different experience from Oahu.  It is kind of neat what a different vibe you get from each island.  I think Kauai is the most beautiful and serene.  Oahu is very busy and developed.  Maui is the surfing and partying island.

Kelly, don't be too jealous, looks liking it is warming up again here.  I never know how I'm going to dress the boys.  Will it be sweats or shorts today?  Besides, the cold weather makes me want to cook and eat.  Not too good for the waistline
