The adventures of Mommy woman
I've learned how to enjoy

Thanksgiving was enjoyable again this year. We have been going to our cousin's home for Thanksgiving for the past few years and it has become a nice tradition. There was adjustments to be made in the beginning of course, but I truly enjoy it now.

Spending this holiday with my inlaws was quite a change. It seems as though Thanksgiving was pretty much the same for the first 21 years of my life. It was spent with my Mom's side of the family. It pretty much consisted of good food, football and cleaning up. Things changed forever in 1995 when I lost my grandpa on that day. Luckily, I can say that he had a wonderful day and was heating up leftovers when he had a massive heart attack. Needless to say, this made the next couple of turkey days a bit difficult.

When the cousins on my husband's side of the family invited us, I had mixed feelings. I felt a bit guilty to not spend it with my Mom since it was a difficult time of year for her but she soon made her own new traditions. It then became a nice way to spend the holiday. My inlaws are so much more stimulating when it comes to conversation. We also play cards and board games. All generations join in the activities. There really isn't a "kiddy table" like the ones I grew up with.

Our kids had 9 other kids to play with. That left us with plenty of time to catch up with relatives, take pictures and eat lots of desserts (my favorite part). I have learned how to not let anything taint the day. I set my mind on having a nice, relaxing time and that is exactly what I did.

I hope others learn how to enjoy their holidays the way I do. I try not to set my expectations too high. I try to plan ahead so I don't feel rushed during the actual holiday. Concentrate on enjoying the things you look forward to.

Best wishes for happy holidays!

I'm glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Although it can be difficult to forget traumatic past experiences, the important thing to remember is to live for the present and enjoy all that you have to be thankful for!

It's so good to see someone else enjoying the holidays. I've seen so many people ranting about how horrible and evil the holidays are it was making me sick.

Happy Holidays!
