The adventures of Mommy woman

Here it is 2:00 in the afternoon and the boys and I are still in our night clothes.  It was a rough night and morning.  My 7yr old started the day with a 100.3 temp and vomitting.  Fun!

Today was supposed to be the school's field day.  The good news (sort of) is that it rained so I don't think my son missed out after all.  The poor guy was laying on a blanket in the middle of the living room, shaking like crazy saying, "I'm fine.  It's field day".  When I kissed his forhead (Mom's standard temp gauge) I could tell he wasn't fine.

He was acting very strange and crying easily last night.  He woke up several times but I thought it was just because he was congested.  When he had been awake at 11:30, 4AM, 6AM then was up for the morning, I knew I was in for something bad.  This is a kid that usually snores from 9:30-8AM straight.

We have been dozing on and off since about 11:00.  The little big guy is looking a lot better but it might just be temporary effects from Motrin.  I am bracing myself for the 3yr old to be up all night next.  Motherhood really is the toughest job you will ever love.  You forget how tired you are when you look at your little one and nothing but concern enters your mind.

I got some Sprite and toast in him and he is perking up some more.  He is even on the floor playing Candy Land with his little brother.  Some of the giggles are returning.  Nothing else matters at the moment.

I had much the same night...and spent most of my day at the hospital with Shea today.  She has had a headache for 3 days straight, poor kids, and said this morning that she couldn't see straight, so I took her in...and they gave her a big shot of morphine and an appointment for a CT scan of her noodle.

Motherhood is the toughest job I've ever had...but at the same time the most rewarding.  The sound of one little voice saying "I love you, Mom" by far makes up for all the sleepless nights and endless laundry.

No truer words have ever been written!

Boy, I sure hope it is nothing serious with Shea's noodle.  That sounds scary!  I had a big old shot of morphine when I was having gall bladder attacks and it gave me a 3 day headache.  I guess if she was already having headaches, it wouldn't matter.

Best wishes.

They think she's having migraines.  She's in the throes of puberty and the doc this morning said that hormones can trigger migraines.  We're getting the scan just to be on the safe side, so we know for sure there's nothing sinister going on.  I feel so bad for her Jill....she's usually such a bright, active kid, and these headaches just knock her on her ass.

Anyway...how's your little dude doing?  I can imagine him being stoic and wanting to go to school even though he's not feeling good...what a tough little man!

Poor Shea.  Head pain is the worst!

My little guy is a lot better now.  His temp is back to normal and he isn't looking nearly as droopy as earlier.  You know how it is, you can just look into your child's eyes and know something is wrong.  He is still droopy for him and his color is off.  He is just hanging out reading and watching cartoons.  Hopefully he will be all set to go to school tomorrow.  Unfortunately, I found out they had field day after all so he missed it

He is still droopy for him

That's the best description of how kids get when they're ill that I've ever heard..."droopy". That's exactly how mine are...

Jill and Dharma: I hope both of your children are feeling much better soon. And Jill I hope your littlest one doesn't catch the bug.

Here's to a peaceful night's rest for both of you tonight!

Much thanks for that sentiment shades!

At 8:30PM my little guy's temp started going back up.  101.9 and he is now complaining that his throat feels funny.  My first impression is strep throat.  I plan to take him to the pediatrician asap in the morning.  I know when I had strep throat it hit me out of nowhere, I spiked a high fever and passed out.

My mom-in-law says that the sitter mentioned not being able to eat because she felt like her throat was closing up.  Who knows, maybe the sitter has strep.

If you have a flashlight, take a look in his throat and at the roof of his mouth.  Strep will typically present with patechei, tiny little pinpoint red/purple dots on the soft pallate.  You might also see white patches at the back of his throat, that's typically strep.

I feel so bad for him, I know strep is awful....and for you too, it looks like you might not get any sleep tonight either!

Best wishes....and as redundant as it sounds if there's anything I can do, please let me know!

"My mom-in-law says that the sitter mentioned not being able to eat because she felt like her throat was closing up."

That was my first reaction to the article... maybe the sitter just had a bad bug, or strep and that disoriented her a bit, and now maybe your son caught it.

I love how much you love your kids. You sound like an amazing mom... kinda like mine, actually.

Thanks so much Sarah.  My son now has Scarlet Fever.  The pediatrician thinks the sitter has strep throat which turned into Scarlet Fever for my son.  Some people like to jump to conclusions.  I like to collect info before I conclude anything.

Dharma, his throat didn't look bad at all and his strep test took a lot longer than usual to start turning positive.  The pediatrician almost sent us on our way before I pointed out the rash.  You just never know!
