Harry Potter- How can you avoid spoilers?

I am looking forward to reading the final installment of the Harry Potter series. I didn't preorder the book and I don't plan to be going to any of the late night parties to buy it either. My husband plans to buy it and read it at our cottage next week.

I don't know when I will get the chance to read it since I'll A) have to wait until Brad is done reading it and will have to wait until the baby allows me time to get some reading in.

So, in the meantime, any suggestions on avoiding spoilers? I'm afraid they will be everywhere and I REALLY don't want to know anything about the ending until I get to read it for myself.

Get rid of the internet.

Don't watch TV.

Don't turn on the radio.

Don't leave the house.

Read the book at the same time as Brad, when the baby gives you time, or have Brad read to you both.

The mainstream news has been rife with "teasers" (not necessarily spoilers, per se). CNN Headline News has ongoing Harry Potter coverage all day today, which is insane; they've mentioned the release parties, the spoilers in the NY Times review, and the fact that some internet dealers shipped the book too early.

Honestly, the hype is so extensive, I'm almost interested enough to pick it up, and I haven't read any of the other books. (I did dig out my copies of the first four books in Arabic, and I'll be giving the first one a go starting today. Lent the second one to my current acting supervisor.) I expect that there will be severe spoilers even on this site within a week (or sooner), so... yeah, the internet isn't safe for this sort of thing.

It's the closest thing to living in a cave but much more pleasant. Brad has internet there but I don't plan to take my laptop and I don't tend to use his. I am planning to take our radio but there isn't a TV. Maybe we'll just play CDs to be safe

Definitely CDs. You might have a chance, but if you go outside, you could see a plane sky-writing the ending, or with one of those ad-banners.

Well I figured the net would be ripe with the spoiler of the end of the book today...but I havent found anything yet. I don't read the books...just watch the movies. Not the same...but alas. I just want to find out if he dies or not. With the $$ Rowling has made....Id be surprised if she killed him off...but maybe she did. Either way...she says this is her last book....but give her a few years and whammo...someone...whoever that may be who died....can come back with some creative writing and that good ol magic.

I kept off the Internet as much as possible the last 48 hours (except for #developers - and Brad and I both made sure it was clear it was to be a spoiler free zone!). Really weird experience.

I'll bring my copy to the office for you in case you can squeeze in some odd moments.

I read it fast so I wouldn't get hit with a spoiler. I did hear though that the media is "supposed" to be focusing on NOT leaking spoilers for at least 72 hours?

Anyway, good luck! I liked it, but I went online after to see what other people thought....and there are lots of people picking it apart line by line. I think you will be okay as long as you avoid sites with names like harrypotterspoilers or Imgoingtoleaktheending in them!

yeah don't research harry potter on the internet, and don't let your friends discuss it while you're around. after a few days it will calm down and there won't be so much on tv and stuff. I finished it within the first 24 hours of release, because I knew I couldn't resist tempataion, and had to get it done right away. happy reading!

You are not kidding about spoilers. I was at a local "Founders Festival" for my community (art, rides, food, etc.) and someone had scrawled in chalk on the pavement, spoilers, all of the fair grounds. Amazing what lengths some people will go to in their excitement.

I had to stay off the Internet pretty much from Friday afternoon onwards. I didn't even check email this weekend since jerks have been posting spoilers to the forum, and I get the report emails when people click to report it... which means I'd see the spoiler content. Someone spoiled one major point for me on Friday morning this way. I wasn't happy.

Walked into a Borders on Saturday, snagged a copy off the shelf, walked out. I finished the book Sunday afternoon, and only at that point did I reconnect to the world.

I'm patroling the sites like a hawk this week though killing spoilers. Already removed one person who was spreading spoilers as far and wide as he could just to spoil people's fun.

Figures. I was almost afraid to read the comments because I was afraid someone would leave a spoiler just to be a wanker. Thanks to all who refrained.

Good gravy! That would seriously tick me off if I went to a festival not expecting anything like that.

I read it over the weekend...
Don't let anyone ruin the ending for you. And don't get tempted. 765 pages goes by so fast.
