The adventures of Mommy woman
Published on June 1, 2006 By JillUser In Blogging

From the waist up I probably look like a fairly normal pregnant woman.  My legs, ankles and feet are freakish though.  The swelling is totally out of control and I have veins that make it look and feel all the more wonderful.

Of course it is incredibly hot right now so I want to wear shorts and skirts.  Unfortunately that lends itself to having my freaky lower half exposed.  I am certain I make people uncomfortable just by looking at me because I see the looks on their faces.

The doctors all say I am perfectly healthy though.  Their only advice is to wear support hose and stay off my feet...yeah, right!  I have two active kids who are both in baseball, finishing up their last days of school and, support hose in this heat...no way!  So I go on with balloonlike feet.

My sweet boys rubbed my feet for me last night while we relaxed on the bed watching cartoons.  They have also been doing house work to help me.  I've been guzzling water and putting my feet up as much as possible.  It is just really difficult when I am fully aware of what I'm in for once the baby is here.

I am also still dealing with a bad case of pregnancy brain and am still very hormonal.  I cry very easily and really hate that.  Only two more months though!  I'm just praying our A/C doesn't go out!

let me see if I got this right.  The Docs say you are fine.  Your Boys rub your feet.  You are 7 months pregnant with a female Brad.

Ok, Rant away!  But enjoy the little things.  No one is looking at the lower half (except weidos!).  They are seeing a beautiful Madonna soon to be with child.

I tend to forget about all those bad parts of pregnancy. My swollen feet were horrible with my first pregnancy. Try to cut back on salt too. That was the main thing my doctor told me. Don't worry it will all be worth it and thank God that pregnancy is a temporary condition.

I am really trying to. I enjoy feeling the kicks even when they hurt or keep me up until 1AM. It is hard to ignore having your feet feel like they're going to pop though.

Try to cut back on salt too.

I talked diet with my doctors and salt isn't the culprit. They actually said it is dangerous for pregnant women to cut too far back on salt. My main culprit is having a malaligned pelvis. I am having major lower back problems and having all of that out of wack lends itself to poor flow to and from the legs and feet. Non pregnant people with lower back problems get the same problems sometimes. That is why the docs say putting my feet up is the best bet.

I too had forgotten about the swelling. After all, it's been 6yrs since I'd been in this condition. I do remember not being able to put on my shoes though.

thank God that pregnancy is a temporary condition.

Amen to that! I asked Brad if he ever wishes he could experience what it's like to be pregnant and he said "No way!" Men who claim they would if they could only say that because they are certain it won't be put to the test

Thank God for AC!

I am sorry you are having the feet problems. 2 months and then you will really be busy.

Super Freak, Super Freak, Super Freaky NOW.....

HAHAHAH.

Sorry when I saw that title that song started running around in my head......

I didn't swell in my feet, but boy my butt sure got big.

I wouldn't worry about people looking at you funny....YOU ARE PREGNANT.  And last time I checked there are no model perfect pregnant bodies.

Your body is beautifully and wonderfully made for just such occasions as this....

Screw everyone who doesn't like it.

That sure cracked me up! Thanks for the laugh.

And last time I checked there are no model perfect pregnant bodies.

I don't know, I see women all the time who look perfect everywhere and just have a cute belly sticking out....I hate them.

What we women do to populate the earth!

No Kidding!

Hang in there Jill.

Thanks Kelly. I'm feeling better today. I have some energy and my feet aren't swollen...yet. I just get pissy when I'm exhausted, swollen and achy. I waiver between not being able to wait until the baby is here and being worried about how much life will change once she is.

Best of luck Jill! Keep 'em up whenever possible (though I know how hard that is when you have multiple little ones running around!). Support hose are really great. Do you have anyone that works in a hospital and could get you a full leg pair of Ted Hose? They are a lot better than the ones you get in the pharmacy section.

I'm sorry you're miserable!   in two months I bet you'll never remember all this temporary misery tho!  especially as you gaze on that sweet newborn's face.

Is it possible to have a mom-in-law or other relative relieve you of some of the work with the kids?

My mom wasn't alive when my two were born, so I did ask an "Aunt-in-law" to watch my 4 year old girl when my son was born.

Wishing a cooler next two months!

I have full length prescription ones from when I had vericose veins removed a couple of years ago. They are more miserable to wear than dealing with the swelling. Plus, people are quicker to dote on me once they see my ballooning feet and ankles

Thanks BlueDev.

My mom-in-law works and lives 45mins away and my mom cares for my niece and lives 45 mins away. My mom did say that once my niece is done with school after this next week she is going to try to come over and help out when she can. I'm sure I'll get lots of help once I have the baby since everyone will want to get their hands on her and will have to go through me first

Wishing a cooler next two months!

Thanks Trudy!

There is absolutely NOTHING more BEAUTIFUL than a pregnant wife.

Ask your husband!

Ask your husband!

You don't know my husband I usually get comments like "Boy, you sure are getting a big gut" from him. He isn't very conventional when it comes to showing his affection He has told me I am glowing but I actually got the title of this from him since he has called me a freak when looking at my ankles and feet.

LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR!!!!

When I had my first son, my feet were swelling pretty bad. I didn't listen to my doctor, I didn't make an effort to stay off my feet and rest. I was working. The swelling got worse. My feet and ankles were HUGE. I just kept buying bigger shoes until one day....NOTHING WOULD FIT. I had to stop working becuase dress code required close-toed shoes. My feet hurt all the time and putting them up didn't solve the problem any more. I was wearing mens size 13 slippers and they STILL cut into my feet. I was misserable!

So, it may not seem like a big deal now....but putting your feet up now for even a little while will make a difference later. Good luck!

I had that problem too with my last pregnancy, swollen feet. My kids took turn rubbing my feet for me and my husband as well. I so enjoyed being pampered and spoiled too!

The veins, I had them too. Most of them went away but unfortunately for me I have some that are inherited. I say ignore those people and wear what you want and what makes you feel good! If you catch them staring at you just ask them if they like your shorts or skirt or whatever you're wearing!! This will bring them up short!hehe

I do too.  Both my parents have vericose veins.  I hope my kids get their legs from daddy.  He has beautiful legs.
