The adventures of Mommy woman
A lovely afternoon
Published on March 4, 2006 By JillUser In Misc

Today my sister and I enjoyed High Tea at a local tea room.  It was a very lovely, very girlie afternoon.  We were surrounded by an eclectic assortment of china tea cups and saucers.  There were doilies galore and everything was flowery and lacey.

We talked over a pot of orange cinnamon tea.  We had finger sandwiches, mini quiches, scones and tarts.  Everything was delicious and beautifully presented.

The little tea room was cozy and smelled wonderful.  Not a hint of testosterone around.  No children running around or whining that they were bored.  Just two sisters enjoying tea.

Wow, now that sounds boring!

Glad you to ladies had a nice time.  I think I would rather eat dirt.

*Please note smilies as an attempt to demonstrate I am being facetious. Though I do think I would rather eat dirt!

This sounds like a perfect day to spend with a sister.

Sounds like a brilliant and relaxing afternoon, Jill. I'm sure you can use those these days as they will be few and far between once your little one arrives!

You have no clue what you're saying! You would rather eat dirt than have warm scones with real butter and raspberry jam, chocolate mousse tarts....yum!

This place didn't have a dress code. It wasn't a stuffy, proper affair. We sat and sipped, nibbled and talked. Not something a busy stay-at-home mom gets to do very often.

I can appreciate how it might not appeal to the testosterone crowd though.

*sarcasm and facetiousness always welcome

It was wonderful Kelly. My sister and I rarely get any peace and quiet together. She works full time and usually when we do get together we both have our kids.

Exactly shades! I'm getting these little gems in as much as I can now. We are even going to take a little vacation (the baby websites call babymoon) this Spring as a last hurrah before baby time.

I think high tea sounds awesome, I especially like the adults only part!

I have never had a high tea, but have hosted many "coffees" in my home.  I love getting together with the ladies and chatting, snacking, and relaxing.

But its a lot of work...I think I like the idea of a tea parlor, all the perks without the work!

When i was a kid we used to go on vacation to Devon and Cornwall in south western England.  One thing Devon is famous for is it's 'cream teas', and dad and mum used to make a point of taking us to tea rooms there where we had pots of tea, fancy little cakes and fruit scones with homemade jam and cream.

We haven't had high tea in our house for years.  You've put me in the mood for one now; I think I'll bake scones tomorrow and have a high tea all by myself tomorrow afternoon!

I agree. I used to belong to a coffee clutch. We took turns hosting but it was a lot of work. You always feel like your house should be spotless and everyone would try to outdo the others with the spread they put out.

I think I'll bake scones tomorrow and have a high tea all by myself tomorrow afternoon!

Wish I could join you! I'm sure you know how to do it up right. I had never had a warm scone before. Yum!

That sounds like a great idea. My sister-in-law is due any day now and we brought her to get "pregnancy massages" to relax. It was cool to see the baby move (literally her stomach dropped several inches) during the massage! Both mommy-to-be and the baby loved it!

*hint, hint, to any of my loved ones out there that want to pamper me. A pregnancy message sounds heavenly!

I am actually looking forward to the stage of seeing my stomach move around. Sometimes it's painful but it is also something totally amazing and different than anything else you could ever experience in life. I can't wait until my boys will be able to put their hands on my tummy and feel the baby.

Not a hint of testosterone around.

I think that says it all, and the reason that bluedev and I would rather be eating dirt!

It aint the lace and doilies! It is the Estrogen!
