The adventures of Mommy woman

I am sickened by the thought of so very many uneducated dolts deciding who will run my country.  You have to take a test in order to drive a car.  Why not have a test in order to vote?  I propose we come up with a basic knowledge requirement to be passed in order to cast a vote.

I don't think an IQ test would be the way to go.  I am just asking that citizens be required to do their homework when it comes to deciding who will have control of such a powerful position.  Just being a citizen doesn't cut it in my book.  If you don't know anything about the basic issues at hand, why should you have a say?

I am sick of hearing people say they are voting for a candidate because they heard this or that.  Do some digging!  Educate yourself!  This is important!  Don't vote for someone because you and your family have always voted for that party.  What if the candidate really doesn't represent the values of your party?  Find out for yourself!

'Sides, 28 year old "chickies" are just as susceptible to such uninformed voting as an 18 year old.
I totally agree.  I never said they should raise the voter age.  If you are old enough to die for your country, you should be old enough to vote.  I would ammend my test to say that if you join the military, you automatically get to vote.

Thanks Insightful!  Gotta like getting insightfuls from their namesake

Grim, I am totally with you on the ID card!

O'Reilly said something last night that I couldn't agree less with (no big surprise on that though), he said that it is our patriotic duty to go to the booth and pull a lever on election day.  Bull flop!  I say it is our patriotic duty to either educate yourself in order to make a decision or stay home and leave the voting to those who really care.

Instead of creating a "voter test," maybe it would be better to shorten the campain season, say to 4 months, outlaw ALL political contributions, and have the networks give the candidates free but limited air time to get their message out

T_Bone one thing I'll say for you (even though you are commonly on the wrong side of the issues ) you're reasoned and generally sensible.

In addition to your suggestions, how's this? ONE six year term for the President. With regard to air time, how about not serving up softballs. When a candidate spins, bends and mutilates the data, how about having someone that can call them on it, right then and there. I'd agree with Hannity, Colmes and Miller and maybe Sharpton.  Never understood what credentials Liddy or Franken had.
